A Walk in Pandemic Lockdown London: Camden Town Station to Chalk Farm Station – Famous Market Street

✓ You may perhaps watch this video and think there’s nothing particularly special about the video, but the video suddenly becomes a bit more special when you bear in mind that in “normal” times “The World Famous Camden Market” is the 4th most popular tourist visitor attraction in London, attracting approximately 250,000 people each week.

At the time of recording this video; all non-essential shops remain closed. The shops that are allowed to stay open are essential shops such as chemists/pharmacy’s, supermarkets, takeaway food shops and banks.

Here’s a video link to give you an idea what the street looked like in pre-pandemic times: (Walking on Camden Market High Street, London).

I wanted to record and document a video showing how empty the streets of London look before lock-down is eased and lifted. In England’s “Roadmap Out of lock-down” all non-essential retail shops and services are allowed to reopen on Monday 12th April 2021, including shops, gyms, hairdressers, nail salons, libraries, outdoor attractions such as zoos and outdoor hospitality venues, including beer gardens, pubs outdoor areas.

The pandemic has devastated many local independent businesses and it is truly heartbreaking & sad to be in the knowledge that some of the shops in the video (such as “Ray Man” Musical Instrument shop (established in 1972) and Chalk Farm Vintage are permanently closed down and will not re-open.

The pandemic has stolen the heart & soul of this once bubbling market street, which predominantly relied on the tourist trade and the heaving nightlife, the pandemic has made the poor poorer and the rich richer and exposed the world to the reality of our very existence.

The good news is that shops such as “Massive International” Reggae Shop ( and “Marine Ices” Ice Cream shop are expected to reopen just in time for the hot summer months.

Camden Market is famed for it’s cosmopolitan image, with many products sold on stalls include crafts, clothing, brick-a-brac, and fast food.

This video was recorded on 30th March 2021 (the day was one of the hottest March months in 50 years; where the temperature reached 24.5 degrees centigrade).

The music used in the video is: When the Ash Settles by The Westerlies.
